Panchkula: A joint operation to control crime in border areas by Panchkula and Himachal Pradesh Police is on the cards. A meeting in the regard was held in Kalka under the leadership of DCP (crime) Panchkula, Mukesh Malhotra.
The meeting began by identifying active drug traffickers and peddlers in both states. It was decided that police forces from both states would jointly take stringent action against them. Also, it was revealed that several slums from Parwanoo area have been relocated to Pinjore and Kalka regions, with around 1,700-1,800 individuals now residing in Haryana area. To prevent any illegal activities, particularly drug trafficking or other unlawful actions, a special combing operation will be carried out in these relocated areas.
To curb illegal mining, both state police forces will conduct raids in border areas. Previously, when one state's police took action, criminals would escape across the border into the other state. However, with joint operations, this issue will be addressed, said the police.
The meeting also discussed extortion cases, as many traders from Himachal Pradesh live in Panchkula. Criminal gangs active in Baddi and Parwanoo areas will be identified and jointly targeted by Himachal Police and the Panchkula crime branch. The issue of illegal liquor smuggling was also discussed in detail. Several secret routes for smuggling were identified, and joint raids will be conducted by the police.
Also, the suspicious activities of buses coming from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, suspected of being involved in drug and illegal arms trafficking, will be closely monitored, and special checks will be conducted by police forces of both he states. The meeting also deliberated on temple theft cases, as there have been incidents of temple thefts in Panchkula linked to similar thefts in Himachal Pradesh. The identification of the criminals involved and their modus operandi will be closely monitored. Police from both states also shared valuable information related to vehicle theft and burglary cases.
Apart from this, a list of fugitives and criminals who absconded after being granted bail was shared during the meeting. Both states' police forces will cooperate to apprehend these individuals. Criminals residing in Himachal but involved in drug trafficking in Haryana have also been identified, and their properties will soon be demolished.
To improve coordination, a WhatsApp group has been created for police officials from both states to share crime-related information.
