In a tragic incident, a man was killed after a large tamarind tree collapsed during a heavy storm in Bappargi village, Hunasagi taluk, on the evening of Wednesday, April 16.
The deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Kallappa Hanamantray Tumbigi.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 5 PM when Kallappa was working in his farmland. As heavy rain and strong winds began lashing the area, he sought shelter beneath a small structure built under a tamarind tree nearby.
Unfortunately, the force of the wind caused the massive tree to topple onto the structure. As a result, Kallappa was buried under the debris, including falling stones and mud, and reportedly died due to suffocation and injuries.
Officials, including Tahsildar Basalingappa Naikodi, Revenue Inspector Shantagouda, and Village Accountant Deepthi, along with police personnel, visited the site to assess the situation and file a preliminary report.
Further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
