To resolve the recurring issue of highway submergence during the monsoon, a new bridge and road elevation work has begun near the Kumaradhara bathing ghat at the popular pilgrimage site of Kukke Subrahmanya.
Every Monsoon, floodwaters from the Kumaradhara and Darpanateertha rivers overflow onto the Subrahmanya-Manjeshwar State Highway (SH-100), forcing authorities to shut the road. This has caused regular inconvenience to pilgrims and locals.
Following appeals by locals, the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner inspected the site and directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to submit a solution report. Based on recommendations from the local MLA, the state government approved an allocation of Rs 6.5 crore.
Project Details:
- Rs 4.5 crore for constructing an all-weather bridge near Darpanateertha.
- Rs 2 crore for elevating the road from Kumaradhara to Parvatamukhi.
PWD has already begun pillar construction for the new bridge, and road elevation work is underway.
PWD officials said the work is progressing swiftly and is expected to offer a permanent solution to the region’s flooding issues.
