Betageri (Narsapur Colony): In a disturbing incident, a man took his own life allegedly due to continuous pressure from a private microfinance agency.
Umesh Katava (40), a daily-wage construction labourer, died by suicide after private financiers repeatedly visited his home, demanding repayment of a loan taken by his wife.
According to police, Umesh’s wife had borrowed Rs 1.5 lakh from the agency. Representatives from the agency visited their home on Wednesday and Thursday asking for repayment.
Family members told police that Umesh, known to be emotionally sensitive, was deeply affected by the aggressive recovery attempts and took the extreme step. Betageri police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances.
