Small aircraft with two aboard crashes in upstate New York

A twin-engine aircraft carrying two people crashed on Saturday in a muddy field in upstate New York, said Columbia County Undersheriff Jacqueline Salvatore, reported Associated Press. While she did not report any deaths, she said there was no damage to any structures.

The federal aviation administration reported that the Mitsubishi MU-2B was en route to Columbia County Airport near Hudson but went down roughly 30 miles away, near Copake.

Salvatore said that mud, weather conditions, and snow have made it hard for first responders to reach the crash site. The national transportation safety board said it has sent an investigation team, which is expected to reach New York by Saturday evening.

According to New York Times, data from Flightradar24 shows a plane of the same model took off from Westchester County Airport in White Plains shortly after 11:30 a.m. It headed north before turning east near Hudson and disappearing from tracking near Copake minutes later.

This comes a day after a sightseeing helicopter crashed into the Hudson river near the New Jersey shore on Thursday, killing all six people on board — including a Spanish family of five and the pilot, a US navy veteran.

Recent months have seen multiple fatal crashes in US, including a midair collision and a medical plane crash.
