NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Thursday quashed 16 chargesheets registered against several citizens accused of sheltering foreign attendees of Tablighi Jamaat congregation during Covid-19 .
" Chargesheets quashed ,” Live Law quoted the judge saying.
In January 2022, the Delhi Police opposed the petitions seeking quashing of charges, stating that the Indian nationals had not only defied the prohibitory orders imposed by the Delhi government but also played a role in the spread of Covid-19.
In its status report responding to the accused's petitions for quashing of criminal proceedings, the Delhi Police had said that members of the Jamaat, who had been staying at the Nizamuddin Markaz between March 26 and March 31, 2020, were later found in the Chandni Mahal area of Central Delhi on April 1, 2020.
The investigating agency further alleged that the accused, named in the present FIRs, knowingly admitted and hosted the Jamaat assembly on their premises despite the prohibitory orders on movement issued by the authorities.
