Google announced a lot of changes coming to Google Play Store at the company’s annual developer conference Google I/O 2025 . The company has revealed that multiple upgrades are coming to Play Store which will provide developers with more robust tools for marketing and monetization. These new features, announced recently, include the introduction of topic pages, audio previews, and advanced subscription management capabilities.
Google Play Store gets new topic pagesGoogle has announced that Google Play is launching new ‘topic browse pages’ which will enable users to easily find relevant content easily. These pages will come with timely and visually engaging content, accessible from various points across the Store, including the Apps Home, store listing pages, and search results. Debuting this month in the U.S. with a focus on Media & Entertainment, these topic pages will showcase a vast array of shows, movies, and sports content.
Audio previewsFor apps where sound is a crucial element, Google Play is introducing "audio samples" on the Apps Home. A simple tap will allow users to experience a brief preview of an app's audio content. This feature is initially available for Health & Wellness app developers in the US, with plans to expand to more categories and markets soon.
Improved subscription tools for developersDevelopers are also receiving powerful new tools to streamline their subscription offerings and improve subscriber retention. Google Play is introducing "multi-product checkout for subscriptions," enabling developers to sell subscription add-ons alongside base subscriptions under a single, aligned payment schedule. This simplifies the purchase experience for users with one price and one transaction.
Furthermore, subscription benefits will be showcased in more prominent locations across Play, including the Subscriptions Center and reminder emails, a move that has already shown a 2% reduction in voluntary churn during early testing.
