Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso confirmed on Friday that Vinicius Junior will not face disciplinary action for his angry reaction during substitution in last weekend's El Clasico victory over Barcelona, following a team meeting where the Brazilian forward apologised to the club.
Vinicius had stormed down the tunnel after being substituted in the 72nd minute of Real Madrid's 2-1 win against Barcelona. The 25-year-old later issued an apology to Real Madrid fans, teammates, the club, and president Florentino Perez, but notably excluded Alonso from his statement.
"On Wednesday, we had a meeting with all the staff, players, and Vinicius gave an impeccable speech. He spoke sincerely, from the heart. For me, this matter has been closed since Wednesday," Alonso told reporters.
The Real Madrid coach emphasised there would be no repercussions against the Brazilian forward.
"We are all in the same boat and rowing in the same direction. I think the whole team is focused on the field, which is the most important thing. We are competitors, all players want to be on the pitch, and that's a good thing. Now, we want to keep moving forward towards our goals, one match at a time," Alonso stated.
The incident occurs at a time when Vinicius is in contract negotiations with the club, though his current deal runs until 2027.
Vinicius has scored five goals in La Liga this season, although Kylian Mbappe has emerged as the team's leading scorer with 16 goals in 13 appearances across all competitions. Mbappe had previously netted 44 goals in his debut season with the club.
Real Madrid currently lead La Liga with 27 points, five points ahead of Barcelona, as they prepare to host Valencia on Saturday.
