Mexican-American boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya is once again back with his brutally honest opinions and thoughts through his popular online segment, Clapback Thursday . While he has previously shared his thoughts about Dana White ’s boxing venture in an interview with FightHubTV, the promoter has now resorted to his humorous segment on Instagram to express his opinion on the UFC president’s stepping into the boxing world.
Oscar De La Hoya shares his unfiltered opinion on Dana White’s joining hands with Turki Alalshikh and announcing the new boxing league Oscar De La Hoya has been in the boxing world for almost 20 years. The announcement of Dana White’s joining hands with the Saudi Arabia General Entertainment Authority Chairman, Turki Alalshikh, and launching a new boxing league, was not liked by many. Oscar was one of them. While in the interview with FightHubTV, the boxing promoter expressed his disappointment and the fact that he was a bit “offended”, he has now revealed his unfiltered opinion on Dana’s decision to explore the boxing arena.

“Speaking of s**mbags”, a rather unapologetic dig by the promoter, “Everyone has been asking me for my opinion and thoughts on Dana White attempting to enter the boxing space…You can’t run a boxing organization when you don’t have any fighters. And right now TKO and Dana have zero fighters. This means they are likely in it for the long haul.”

Oscar even went on to talk about the controversial pay scale issues faced by the fighters at TKO and UFC, “TKO’ supposed fighter pay and salaries were leaked a few weeks ago. And if these are real, holy shit! Dana’s gonna have several problems…No fighters are gonna fight for these pennies. The majority of their prospects will fight one or two times a year and be forced to survive on minimum pay.”

The promoter also focused on the statement made by Dana, where the latter explicitly stated that the best must fight the best, which would result in the boxer’s career being a rather short one. The pay scale is a major issue in the UFC, which might stir up problems in the functioning of the boxing space considering that boxers are generally paid much more than the UFC fighters.

“No pay-per-view fighter will fight for $750000. You are telling me that the Canelo’s and Ryan’s of this world will agree to this kind of pay. No!” Oscar further stated, “If these numbers are real, the UFC fighters will be so pissed. The TKO boxers will be getting paid so much more than the UFC fighters.”

Oscar talked about the previous attempts by the UFC president to venture into the boxing space. He cited the example of Zuffa boxing, which never materialized.

“When Dana doesn’t have the funding and the business brains already in place, like the Fertitas or Turkey, he always fails.”

The Clapback Thursday episode was a rather ruthless one, where Oscar even talked about Dana’s reputation as an individual who slapped his wife publicly and was written off by his mother as a terrible person. The episode ended with Oscar agreeing to work with Dana in the future within the boxing circuit by addressing him as part of the 80% “s**mbags” whom the boxing promoter deals with within the sphere.
