Lewis Hamilton has said, “It’s going to take time” for him to settle into a new team and a new culture. Hamilton moved from Mercedes to Ferrari after more than a decade and has yet to clinch a win in his first season with Ferrari. He has also shared the disadvantage he faced after not being able to test the new tyres in Abu Dhabi. The new F1 season didn’t start well for Hamilton, who finished 10th at the Australian Grand Prix and was disqualified after coming sixth at the Chinese Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton opens up on why he couldn’t perform in MelbourneLewis Hamilton is now in Japan for the Japanese Grand Prix from April 4-6. Talking to the media about Ferrari, Hamilton said, as per BBC.com, that he has “absolute 100% faith” in the team. Addressing speculations about why he has been unable to perform yet, he said, “There was obviously a huge amount of hype at the beginning of the year. I don't know if everyone was expecting us to be winning from race one and winning the championship in our first year. That wasn't my expectation. I know that I'm coming into a new culture, a new team, and it’s going to take time."
In fact, the Briton has learned from his experiences this season. “I was actually quite happy with how I’ve adapted in just those two races. I’ve definitely got a lot of work to do to make sure that it’s better moving forward. It’s just understanding the technical side of this thing, understanding all the tools that I have. It likes to be driven differently,” he explained.
Hamilton said the Sunday race in Melbourne was the first time he had driven the Ferrari car in the rain and was “learning a lot throughout the race.” He also revealed that, unlike other F1 drivers at the Abu Dhabi tests, he couldn’t get the chance to try out the new tyres since his car broke down. It was in the Sprint in Shanghai, which he won, that he first did a long run on the new tyres.
Hamilton is definitely eyeing a win in the upcoming races. He will take part in the Japanese Grand Prix starting Friday. His teammate, Charles Leclerc, was also disqualified after finishing fifth at the Chinese Grand Prix.
