Everyone was left shocked when Sharmila Tagore had appeared on 'Koffee With Karan' with Saif Ali Khan and revealed that she had gone through Cancer. As the actress has been away from the limelight and largely kept her private life, private, one did not know of it. During this episode, Karan had shared that before Shabana Azmi, he had offered that part to Sharmila Tagore in 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani'. He had said, "I’d offered Sharmila ji the part played by Shabana ji, she was my very first choice. But because of health reasons at that time, she couldn’t say yes. It is a regret I have."
The 'Chupke Chupke' actress reacted and revealed, "It was at the height of COVID. They hadn’t really grappled with COVID at that time, we were not vaccinated. After my cancer… They didn’t want me to take that risk.” While the actress had not divulged into more details about it, her daughter Soha Ali Khan has now opened up on it. She shared during an interview with Nayandeep Rakshit, "I have had loss in my family. We have been through stressful situations as everybody does. With my mother, she was one of the very few people to be diagnosed with lung cancer at stage zero, and no chemotherapy, nothing. It was cut out of her and she is, touchwood, fine."
The family also recently went through a tough time when Saif Ali Khan was attacked. The actor is now fine and has recovered well post surgery.
