Caught in another storm: 'House Arrest' controversy
Ajaz Khan isn’t just facing trouble from this FIR. He is also caught up in a major controversy linked to the Ullu app’s new reality show 'House Arrest', which he hosts. The show, which started streaming on 11 April 2025, features 12 contestants – nine women and three men – all locked in a luxury villa where they perform a series of tasks. The show was promoted as an uncensored version of reality shows like 'Bigg Boss' and 'Lock Upp'. However, 'House Arrest' faced backlash almost immediately. A clip from the show went viral on social media, causing public outrage due to its bold and explicit content.
A video from the show House Arrest on the Ullu App went viral. In the clip, Ajaz asks contestants to act out different Kamasutra positions, which caused a lot of anger on social media and among politicians. Many people were also shocked by the show’s content, saying it promotes explicit material while pretending to be just entertainment. Social media also called out for a ban on the show and strict action against Ajaz Khan and the producers. The controversy has sparked a strong reaction from viewers and officials alike.
After a complaint by a Bajrang Dal member, Amboli police filed an FIR last Friday against Khan and show producer Rajkumar Pandey. The case includes charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the IT Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. These relate to obscene acts in public and online spaces.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) also slammed the show in a post on social media platform X, saying, “Viral clips show women being bullied into intimate activities on camera. NCW denounces the platform for encouraging vulgarity & violating consent.”
