Kanpur: Members of one community disrupted a tilak celebration of another community, and engaged in violence and stone-pelting before fleeing the scene on Thursday night in Ludhaura locality.
The perpetrators opposed the celebration being conducted in the narrow street and assaulted attendees. They resorted to stone-pelting injuring several people. Subsequently, police force arrived and apprehended three suspects. The Colonelganj police lodged a case against 25 individuals, including 10 identified persons.
Lakshmi, wife of Raja from Ludhaura area in Colonelganj said that her son Shiva's tilak ceremony was on Thursday. Food arrangements were organised outside the Shivala temple premises under a tent. While guests were dining, around 20-25 people, including Adnan, Babu, Guddu, Baua, Khurshid, Nadeem, Chhagga, Imran, Ghulam Ghaus, and Bantu's nephew reached there. They abused and attacked the guests.
The ACP and the police pacified the agitated crowd. DCP (Central) Dinesh Kumar Tripathi confirmed filing an FIR against 10 named and 15 unidentified persons. "Nadeem, Tauheed, and Asif were arrested and sent to jail," the DCP said, adding that CCTV footage are being reviewed to identify other suspects."
