Chennai: Residents of several peripheral areas struggled without electricity on Sunday night after glitches in the distribution network affected the power supply. Madipakkam, Medavakkam, Guduvanchery, Kovalam, Madanandapuram near Porur, Chrompet, Kundrathur, and Sevvapet are some of the areas that faced power cuts.

Raja of Medavakkam said the power supply was cut at 10.30 pm and was not restored by 1.30 am. "In between, the power supply resumed, but there was an outage soon. The night before the reopening of schools, kids had to suffer without sleep and sweat," he said.

In Kundrathur the power supply was cut at 11 pm, while in Avadi and Paruthipattu, power supply was interrupted in a few areas. Kodungaiyur and Mandavelipakkam also reported power cuts.

TNPDCL officials, however, maintained that there were no major issues in the distribution network and attributed the disturbance to being isolated and local. "In Medavakkam, a transformer issue affected the power supply to a few streets," said an official. In Avadi, tripping of an 11kV feeder led to the outage, and the power supply was restored around 1 am.
