Jhansi couple carrying egnr son's ashes toSangam among four killed in car crash

Prayagraj: A couple carrying ashes of their engineer son for immersion at Sangam in Prayagraj were among four persons who died when the car in which they were travelling crashed into a parked dumper near Sujanipur on Kanpur-Prayagraj highway in UP's Fatehpur district on Saturday.

The couple's son –Aditya (in mid 30s) – had died of drowning in Madhya Pradesh's Omkareshwar on April 12. The family from Jhansi, including his widow Charu, parents Ramkumar Bhargav and Kamlesh, Aditya's brother-in-law and other relatives, were going to Sangam to immerse his ashes when the accident took place around 8am.

The deceased included Ramkumar Bhargav (55), his wife Kamlesh (in 50s), Charu's brother Parag Chaubey (40) and driver Shivam Yadav (35).

Charu and her nephew Akshatra Rawat (10) were taken to the district hospital for further treatment.

Police said Aditya lost his life in a drowning incident on April 12 while on a pilgrimage with his wife Charu to Omkareshwar. They visited the Mahakal Temple in Ujjain and later went to the Brahmapuri Ghat in Omkareshwar. While bathing in Narmada, Aditya was swept away in deep waters. After four days, Aditya's body was fished out on April 16.

On April 17, the family returned to Jhansi with the body for the final rites, which were performed by his nephew.

The family set out late Friday night to immerse Aditya's ashes in Prayagraj. However, the car, travelling at a high speed, failed to avoid the dumper parked on the roadside, resulting in a fatal collision. Upon hearing screams, locals rushed to the spot, only to find the passengers trapped in the wreckage. The police and locals immediately broke the car windows to rescue the injured.

The victims were rushed to the divisional hospital at Khaga, where Aditya's parents and Parag and Shivam were declared dead. The impact of the collision was so severe that the car's front end was completely damaged. Traffic was also disrupted on the highway, and the police had to call in a JCB machine to clear the wreckage.
