If you have a Roku Stick popped in the back of your TV, there's good news coming later this year. It's just been confirmed that a whopping 40 channels will be arriving on devices next month, and all will be available to watch for free. That means no signing up for long-term contracts or having to fork out for expensive monthly subscriptions.
Roku says the update will offer UK viewers a wide variety of streaming 24 hours a day and all channels will be available at no cost on new and existing Roku devices.
The new UK lineup will include so-called FAST channels (that stands for free ad-supported streaming TV) and will be dedicated to popular series and genres.
The new content will span entertainment, lifestyle, true crime, classic TV, documentaries, and more.
It will even include the PGA TOUR for golf, along with Unsolved Mysteries for crime, NatureTime for wildlife and Love Pets for animals.
"With the launch of our first FAST channels in the UK this October, we're giving viewers more choice than ever before - from iconic series and films to new favourites and niche genres - all for free," said Richard Halton, Country Manager, Roku UK.
"It's an exciting step forward as we continue to expand and open up new opportunities for advertisers to reach highly engaged audiences.
There's no word on an exact launch date, but the channels should begin rolling out during October.
Although that's good news for Roku fans, there's a less popular change from Amazon.
It's been confirmed that the hugely popular Freevee app has closed its doors from today, September 1. That means Fire TV Stick owners won't be able to tune in or watch any content via this application.
Freevee has long been a popular way of watching TV with it offering swathes of shows, movies and live broacasts without requiring any subscription fees.
Freevee's huge catalogue of content will switch over to Prime Video instead.
