It's not often that a TV gets me genuinely excited, but Samsung's latest screen would definitely be on my future wish list - well, that's if I had a house big enough to install it. The Korean firm's new Micro RGB gogglebox has just been showcased at the yearly IFA tech event in Berlin, and it measures in at a whopping 115 inches. That means you'll need a serious amount of space to own it.
Along with a Los Angeles mansion, you'll also want the salary of a Hollywood hero to buy it. Samsung is yet to announce pricing, but I don't think you'll get much change from £30,000 - ouch! Yes, that's a lot of cash, but having seen this TV in the flesh it's pretty special.
Samsung's Micro RGB is built on Samsung's proprietary Micro RGB Technology. This arranges individually controlled red, green and blue micro RGB LEDs in an ultra-fine pattern behind the panel. Unlike conventional backlighting, the latest architecture enables precision control over each red, green and blue RGB LED.
That basically means you get visuals which offer incredible clarity.
Despite its massive size, everything I viewed during my demo was pin-sharp and packed full of rich detail. The colours are also mesmerising with reds, blacks and greens all bursting out of the giant panel - it's really hard not to be wowed by what's on the screen.
Thanks to glare-free technology, Samsung's Micro RGB is also able to minimise annoying reflections meaning fewer distractions from the room's environment.
In an attempt to show off just how good it is, Samsung demoed its new RGB telly against another recently launched rival that measures in at a slightly bigger 116 inches.
Looking at the two screens side by side, there's no question that Samsung's display offers brighter visuals and much richer colours that really pop.
The second display was still impressive, but it definitely lacked the punch supplied by the Micro RGB technology.
Of course, not many homes will want or can afford a 115-inch Micro RGB television, but if you happen to win the lottery and fancy installing a supersized screen in your mansion, you might struggle to find anything as good as Samsung's latest technology.
More news on a release date and official price will be announced soon - watch this space.
Speaking at the launch, Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President and Head of the R&D Team of the Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics, said: "Micro RGB achieves unprecedented precision in the control of micrometer-sized RGB LEDs, raising the bar for colour accuracy and contrast in consumer displays.
"With this launch, we're setting the standard in the large-sized, ultra-premium TV market and reinforcing our commitment to next-generation display innovation."
