Andrew Castle has given his take on his awkward exchange with Andre Agassi when the duo were sitting alongside each other in the commentary box at Wimbledon earlier this summer. Castle and Agassi were both handed roles by the BBC during the tournament as they described the tennis action from the All England Club.
The 2025 edition of Wimbledon got underway in soaring heat at SW19 as players were forced to contend with temperatures of 32.3 degrees Celsius on the opening day of play. And the tennis proved sublime throughout the fortnight, with Jannik Sinner going on to defeat Carlos Alcaraz in a thrilling men's final after Iga Swiatek had thrashed Amanda Anisimova in the ladies' final.
Castle and Agassi were on commentary duties for the men's semi-final between Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz as the Spaniard won in four sets.
And during a break in play, Agassi attempted to analyse what he had witnessed while television viewers were given a glimpse of celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio, Benedict Cumberbatch and Rami Malek in the Royal Box.
Castle interrupted the eight-time Grand Slam champion to introduce the famous faces in attendance, with Agassi attempting to start his point for a second time as he exclaimed: "Don't torture me. Let me finish my point."
But Castle interrupted the former tennis star for a second time to tell viewers they were looking at former deputy prime minster Nick Clegg. And Agassi responded by saying: "People watching are watching for tennis, not for this."
Castle gave his take on the incident during a chat with Betway. And he maintained that there was no animosity between the pair as he explained: "That's the difference between the transcript and the reality... we had a great time. I mean we had a great time.
"We had a laugh, and they took it out of context. I mean what appears to be something on paper is totally different in real life.
"Afterwards, Andre sent me a text, saying what an unbelievable time he'd had, and how he enjoyed it, and we were going to have him for the final. But then he went into the Royal Box instead - but he had a great time.
"We had a series of just amazing texts and messages that we swapped afterwards, and it was fantastic. But then you read that he was saying, 'Oh, just concentrate on the tennis.'
"I mean, it was nothing like that in any way, shape, or form. He was saying that tongue in cheek whilst smiling at me. And in the final, I didn't mention any celebrities at all. None.
"I mentioned the second row of the Royal Box, which had the former champions in that row and that's all I mentioned in the final.
"If you've got a picture of Matthew McConaughey on your screen, and I say nothing, I think people are hearing things, because I didn't mention any of that stuff. That's it."
