Spread across a staging area of 301 square miles, a gigantic airport that cost £2bn to build in Saudi Arabia holds the prestigious title of being the world's largest airport. Located in Dammam, King Fahd International Airport (KFIA) is so big its land area is larger than entire countries like Bahrain and Singapore, as well as major cities like Paris and Mumbai.

Consisting of three terminals, this colossal airport which started operations in 1999 is seven times larger than Manchester. It is is a vital stop for international flights because of its prime location between important cities like Riyadh, Dubai and Bahrain.

With an average of nine daily flights to Dubai International Airport the airport offers flights to 56 destinations through 40 airlines.

The airport is served by two runways, both measuring 2.5miles long with Denver International Airport coming in second place and Istanbul taking third.

The airport boasta a Royal Terminal offering important guests privacy and luxury. This terminal has its own entrance and security checks.

In 2009, the world's largest aircraft, the Antonov AN-225 Mriya, landed at King Fahd International Airport during a stopover on its journey from Ukraine to Tanzania.

At 275 ft (84 m) long and with a wingspan of 288 ft (88 m), Mriya was the largest aircraft in the world.

Plans to construct the airport began in 1970, the airport's master plan was complete in 1977. Construction work was started in 1983 and it officially opened for commercial traffic on November 28, 1999.
