A picturesque village in the heart of the Peak District has quietly become a magnet for A-listers, and it's all thanks to its cinematic cliffs, rich folklore, and an unusually charming chippy. Stoney Middleton, set against the dramatic backdrop of limestone crags in Derbyshire, might look like something out of a film, and that's because it is.
In 2021, the village played host to Hollywood royalty when Tom Cruise touched down to film high-octane scenes for Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One. Helicopters buzzed over Dalton Quarry, where Cruise famously oversaw a stunt involving a train carriage plunging off a cliff, all performed in this unassuming valley village.
But Cruise didn't just stick to the skies. He and his crew took time to explore Stoney Middleton's local food spots, including its quirky chip shop like no other.
Housed in a Grade-II listed former toll house, the village chippy is not just a place for fish and chips, but a slice of British history. This unusual circular building once served as a gateway to the village, and now serves up hot food with a side of celebrity sightings, according to Manchester Evening News.
He's not the only famous face to have stopped by, either. Liam Gallagher, Oasis frontman and known lover of all things northern, is another star to have paid a visit to the same chippy while holidaying in the village.
Yet Stoney Middleton's allure goes far beyond celebrity drop-ins. The village is steeped in centuries-old legends, none more striking than that of Lovers Leap.

Towering cliffs at the village's entrance bear the name thanks to the tale of Hannah Baddeley, a heartbroken young woman who, in 1762, leapt from the cliffs after being rejected by her lover.
Miraculously, her billowing wool petticoats acted as a parachute, saving her life, freeing her from her heartache.
Today, a plaque marks the site, near what was once the Lovers Leap pub, now transformed into Curry Cottage, a restaurant embedded into the rock itself. The restaurant even boasts a geological quirk: part of the cliff runs straight through its dining room.
Whether you're there for the legends, the landscapes, or just the chips, Stoney Middleton offers a one-of-a-kind village experience, where the views are dramatic, the food historic, and you might just rub shoulders with a movie star.
