Thankfully, there's a super simple way to get rid of the mould and mildew - and I don't even need to scrub at all. While many households are fans of using natural ingredients, such as white vinegar or baking soda, to clean their shower, I am a fan of non-natural products.
Available in major supermarkets, such as Asda and Tesco, I opted for Astonish Mould and Mildew Blaster - and it does exactly what you expect it to. The green and blue bottle promise that the commercial cleaning product "removes stains" and that there's "no need to scrub" - and it's true. I simply sprayed the mould-stained grout along my bathtub and shower, left the bathroom for a few minutes, and when I came back the mould had disappeared.
Official directions for use state: "Spray, leave for a few minutes then rinse or wipe clean. On vertical surfaces apply via a sponge pr cloth to avoid run-off."
Admittedly, there can be a strong odor when you first apply the product, but as soon as I rinsed the area with my detachable shower, the smell was gone.
Even better, the product promises to "prevent return" of mould and mildew with regular use.
However, as a natural sceptic, I can only imagine the mould and mildew will return at some point.
Yet, all it will require is a quick spray with Astonish Mould and Mildew Blaster to disintegrate the problematic growth.
This means it will be super easy to keep on top of and, as only a few squirts of spray are needed each time, the bottle should last a long time.
Astonish Mould and Mildew Blaster is available for £1.40 from Wilko; £2 from Asda; and £2.50 from Dunelm.
