Peace lilies are a fantastic to have in your home as they are an easy-going houseplant that generally do not need a lot of care, but this can change in summer. At this time of year, peace lilies tend to grow quickly, and need more nutrients in their soil to keep their energy up.
If a peace lily becomes too depleted of nutrients it can really stunt its growth, resulting in weak stems, dull leaves and even no flowers at all. However, Asiya , a gardening expert and founder of Plant Hacks N Beyond, has shared a very simple way to keep peace lilies nourished is to feed them is rice water.

Asiya said: "Uncooked, washed rice water is my secret weapon. It's packed with nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium that your peace lily will love."
She added: "This trick boosts plant immunity, supports root health, and makes the leaves super shiny."
It may sound strange but the water leftover after washing rice contains nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, which are the main nutrients all plants need to grow.
Nitrogen helps the leaves grow healthy and stay glossy, potassium helps a plant resist disease as well as take in water which is important in summer while phosphorus is the nutrient needed for flower production.
Rice water helps give peace lilies the energy they need while growing, so you are more likely to get more than one flower this year that blooms for a longer period of time.
How to use rice water to give peace lilies a boostBefore you begin, it should be noted that it is better to use the water leftover from washing rice and you should not use cooked rice water.
Uncooked rice water is more nutritional for plants and unlike cooked rice water is less thick, so it cannot cause a blockage in the soil or suffocate the roots.
All you need to do is save the water after washing rice, and then let it sit at room temperature for a few hours, or even overnight to let it ferment slightly. This helps break down the nutrients to make it easier for the plant to absorb.
Then, before you water your peace lily, mix one part of the rice water with four parts water. You need to dilute the rice water otherwise the solution will be too sticky and clog the soil.
If you use this homemade solution to water your peace lily weekly it will help the plant flourish so you get big lush flowers and shiny green leaves all summer.
