Last week, Lionsgate unveiled the title of 2 in a first look teaser.
The Resurrection of the Christ sees director teaming up over 20 years on with original Jesus star Jim Caviezel for a sequel of biblically epic proportions.
From what both have said about Oscar-winning Braveheart screenwriter Randall Wallace's script, the film will recount much more than just the disciples interacting with the risen Christ.
spanning from Genesis and the fall of Lucifer to the Harrowing of Hell; when Jesus descended to the dead to free the captive prophets of old now that his blood has paid for their sin at the Cross.
Now the filmmaker has spoken out again and it sounds like The Resurrection of the Christ could possibly end up being in two parts.
Perhaps The Second Coming of the Christ would cover the rapture and return before the final judgement? Gibson recently took part in a panel at Fan Expo Philadelphia, where he spoke out more on The Resurrection of the Christ. The 69-year-old admitted it took him and Wallace eight years to write the "very complex" screenplay.
According to , he shared: "It was a very difficult thing to find and synthesise, because you have to understand, firstly, why it matters... You have to think, why is mankind so important in this process? Why are the big realms of good and evil slugging it up for the hearts and minds and souls of mankind? Why us? We're just a bunch of f***ed up things. We're imperfect. You have to ask yourself, why are we important? Why are we making the sandwich? That whole huge story. And I think in order to understand that, you have to, you have to start with the fall of the angels in the firmament, before right at the beginning, is pretty crazy idea, what did that look like? I know what it looks like. It's not one film, it's two films, because it's massive."
It's unclear at this stage if he just means the movie will be cut down but still be very long or if it would actually be split into two parts.
