Jake Paul's fight with Gervonta Davis may be cancelled as commissioner issues statement

Jake Paul's exhibition clash with Gervonta Davis has hit a major stumbling block. The proposed November 14 event will no longer proceed in Georgia. Paul, competing as a cruiserweight, announced an exhibition bout with lightweight Davis towards the end of last month. Nevertheless, according to USA Today, the boxers' considerable weight disparity has led Paul's promotional firm, MVP, to withdraw applications for event permits and rule exemptions.

This follows Paul generating controversy through his remarks on Charlie Kirk's death. Rick Thompson, chairman of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission, declared: "I believe it's in the public's interest to know that because they've been promoting something they should not have been.

"They probably evaluated a situation-knew that their weight differences were too much," Thompson added. BoxingScene reports that promoters remain optimistic they can still organise the bout despite this setback.

Promoters might consider moving the contest to a different state, with less than two months left before the planned date. Whether the ruling would have proved favourable or unfavourable for the event remains unclear.

However, Thompson didn't hold back when sharing his thoughts about Paul vs. Davis.

"This is the dumbest (expletive) I've ever heard," Thompson stated. "It's a money grabber, and I'm not OK with that'... I'm going to make my biggest case that this is not good."

Paul was delighted to step inside the ring with Davis, who he claims is a "disrespected" fighter.

"Gervonta who has been disrespecting my name for too long," Paul said. "His nickname might be Tank, but I'm an FPV drone and I'm about to disable tiny boy.

"Yes, he's one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world, but my motto is anyone, anytime, anyplace, against all odds. And I like my odds. First, I am going to kill David, then I will go on to slaughter Goliath."

One of Paul's future ambitions is to battle Canelo Alvarez. However, the Mexican boxing legend was defeated by Terence Crawford in a Netflix clash for the title as the undisputed super-middleweight.

Paul mocked Canelo, who he was on the verge of facing earlier this year before his rival had a change of heart and signed a four-year deal with Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh.

"Canelo putting his hand up like he won lol. dumb*** lying weirdo. Canelo been over rated," Paul taunted following Canelo's defeat.
