Greedy opportunists are cashing in on Ozzy Osbourne's sudden death on July 22 at the age of 76, selling branded confetti which they picked up for free at the Back To The Beginning concert. The confetti was shot out into the 40,000-strong crowd in Villa Park, Birmingham, on July 5. While many artists have been known to drop confetti in the crowd at shows, this had been personalised to mark the occasion and is slightly bigger than usual confetti. There are two different versions of the circular pieces of paper - one celebrating Ozzy and the other recognising his band Black Sabbath. While one side boasts the relevant logo, the back has their name and the date and location of the gig, along with the words "Birmingham Forever".
Many attendees picked up multiple pieces of the confetti as a memento, and while some were selling them prior to Ozzy's death, many were offering them free to fellow fans once they covered postage. However, the buy-and-sell site eBay currently boasts numerous listings for the memorabilia.
One seller is looking for an astonishing £208.68 for two pieces of the confetti, which they are selling with a poster from the show. They don't list the size of the poster, but it appears to be approximately A4 size or smaller, which would cost around £10 to buy and can be purchased online on other sites for far less.
Another buyer is asking for £57.87 plus postage for a mere four pieces of the coveted confetti. That works out at nearly £15 for each tiny piece of paper. The same seller is offering two pieces for £26.67, or £13.33 per piece.
One of their rival sellers is offering four pieces, two of each design, for £31.88, which is nearly £8 per piece of the confetti they acquired for free.
Elsewhere, another seller is offering six pieces for £26.67 or £4.45 per piece. You can also get eight pieces for £28.76, or £3.60 each. One person is only offering a single piece of the Black Sabbath confetti for £16.12.
However, not everyone is trying to completely rip off fans, as some have used the pieces to create proper memorabilia.
One person has made a creative display putting four pieces in a 4 x 6 frame, and they are asking for £21.48 plus postage.
Another person has turned individual pieces into keyrings, which they are selling for £16.13 each. While they are still making a significant profit, you do get a useful product rather than just a tiny piece of paper.
They weren't the only ones with that idea; a different user is selling a Black Sabbath confetti keyring for £21.48.
