
An actor best known for his roles in and Boardwalk Empire has died aged 41. Devin Harjes reportedly had a brief battle with cancer, after reportedly being diagnosed last year. He died on May 27 at , according to his obituary.
While his cause of death has not yet been made public, the star was said to have been battling cancer before his death. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Devin was last winter. His family shared that he was a dedicated student of martial arts and a regular at the gym. He is survived by his parents, sister, nieces and nephews, and ex-wife.
In a statement, the actor's representative told the press: "He was an artist of great conviction who never gave less than one hundred percent to any role he undertook. As a person, he was generous, kind, understanding and devoted to his family and friends, a great horseback rider and had a magic way with all animals."
"His life began with the rhythm of hooves and the open plains - just three days after he was born, his father carried him and his sister on horseback," his obituary read. "That early bond with animals and the rodeo spirit stayed with him and later became the unlikely but perfect foundation for a life in the performing arts.
"Outside of acting, Devin was a dedicated student of martial arts and a regular at the gym - he often joked it was safer than getting kicked in the face by a horse."
His family added: "In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to TKC Blessings in Devin's name. All proceeds will support scholarships for children pursuing the arts-Devin's true passion in life."
The actor performed in off-Broadway productions and independent films before transitioning to television. Devin went on to have huge success and won several top awards. His biggest role was in The Forest is Red, which won him best actor at Italy's Tolentino International Film Festival.
He other big break came on Boardwalk Empire, which made him a household name. He played the legendary boxing champion Jack Dempsey in the hit TV series. Other notable credits included roles in Daredevil, Gotham, Blue Bloods and Netlfix's Orange Is the New Black.
