Former legend, Anne Reid, has opened up on her secret to aging well as she shared some thoughts about her mortality. In an interview with on his ITV show , the 89-year-old actress shared that she would not want to die in a hospital bed.
"I think you've just got to keep going, you know," she told the gardener while speaking about aging. "A doctor said to me recently, 'What's your secret?' And I said well I try and avoid stress. You can't avoid big stress, obviously, but small things in life. My mother used to say 'oh the washing up will still be here when we get back', and things like that and that's my attitude. I try not to worry about small things and keep stress out of my life.
"And go for life. I tend to say yes to everything instead of no. I think a lot of people say no to things, don't they? They think 'oh no, I can't do that'."
She added how she feels about her own mortality, saying: "I said to my son the other day that I would rather die falling off a mountain in China or skiing of a bridge in Switzerland rather than in a hospital bed. So that's my philosophy." Alan didn't seem to know what to say as he chuckled in response at her stark admission.
Earlier in the show, Alan, 75, reminded Anne of her selection as Pin-Up Of The Year by The Oldie magazine in 2014, sparking a light-hearted exchange.
Alan mentioned: "My researchers told me you were something like Sex Pot Of The Year or something in 2014."
Anne swiftly corrected him, clarifying: "No, I know what you're thinking of. I was Pin-Up Of The Year. The Oldie magazine, darling." A curious Alan inquired: "Well, isn't that the same thing?"
Anne elaborated further: "I went to a lunch. Terry Wogan wrote to me and said 'you've been voted Pin-Up Of The Year' and they had a lunch, terribly famous people were there."
She recounted the star-studded event: "John Major had his wife came and kissed me, Jilly Cooper wrote to me and I sat next to Baroness Trumpington. I had to make a speech and it was an amazing lunch but it's not the same as being a sex symbol."
