Abi Webster (played by Sally Carman-Duttine) has been tangled in a dangerous web since beginning her affair with Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard), her husband Kevin's brother. The pair first grew close while Kevin (Michael Le Vell) was deceiving his wife about undergoing cancer treatment. Although Abi initially resolved to stay for the sake of the children, her resolve quickly slipped, and she resumed seeing Carl in secret.
Their relationship was soon exposed by Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford), who caught them in a passionate moment and wasted no time blackmailing them for money. While Abi briefly considered running away to Germany, Carl tried to raise cash through his car-stealing racket, further endangering those around him.
Kevin's fury only grew when the Websters returned from Mallorca to find Carl back in the garage, despite being told to stay away. But Abi, unable to fight her feelings, soon sought Carl out again, telling him she couldn't stop thinking about him.
Instead of welcoming her, Carl appeared distracted by constant calls from Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne). When pressed, he confessed that Dylan and Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) had been stealing cars on his behalf. Abi was horrified, especially after a hit and run linked to a stolen vehicle left the police searching for answers.
Spoilers ahead...
In new scenes, Brody assures Kit that neither he nor Dylan was behind the crash. He explains that he suffered a seizure at the time of the hit and run, which forced the boys to abandon the stolen car and head to the hospital instead.
Brody reminds Carl that they ditched the vehicle before seeking medical help - but when Carl later went to collect it, the car had already disappeared. This leads him to suggest that someone else must have taken it and been responsible for the accident.
Meanwhile, Dylan finds himself under scrutiny at the police station. Jess presses him about his role in Carl's operation and the crash, but Dylan reveals he was at the hospital during the incident.
The revelation throws the investigation into doubt: if Dylan's alibi checks out, will the police let him walk free, or will Carl's dodgy dealings come back to haunt both him and Abi?
As suspicions mount and the truth about the hit and run edges closer, Abi is left fearing just how deep Carl's criminal world goes - and whether her affair has tied her to something far darker than she ever imagined.
