Britain's Got Talent viewers were left baffled as Simon Cowell received the Golden Buzzer in a show 'first'. During Saturday's (12th April) episode of the ITV hit show, the music mogul was back on our TV screens alongside his fellow judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli as a set of hopefuls attempted to impress them with their talents.
As always, Ant and Dec were waiting in the wings of the stage as members of the public showed off their varying talents. However it was one act that caught everyone off-guard, especially Simon, as he was unexpectedly brought up on stage by a performer called The Hacker.
The unknown man's identity wasn't revealed as he was wearing a mask and in a shock twist he swapped places with Simon and did his audition from the judge's chair with his feet up on the desk.
As expected, Simon was left confused while standing on stage. It then became clear that he was actually going to be doing the act and performing a magic act, instead of judging as usual.
The act saw an AI version of Simon perform as an act on a screen behind the stage. In the end, The Hacker gave judges no chance to reveal whether they voted yes or no.
Simon admitted that he felt "overwhelmed" as he joked that the show should "double the prize fund" after sailing through to the next round.
But when it was The Hacker's turn to make his decision he instead pressed the Golden Buzzer, making gold confetti fall all over the stage and over Simon.
It didn't take long for viewers to rush straight to social media to share their reaction to the moment as many were left feeling "confused" as acts on Britain's Got Talent always get told whether they're through to the next round or not.
A Golden Buzzer progresses them through to the live shows.
One baffled viewer wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: "WTF is this audition? #BGT." Another joked: "So Simon now is in the finals???? Hope he wins #bgt."
A third asked: "Is this a BGT first?! Simon just got The Hacker's Golden Buzzer! #BGT #BritainsGotTalent"
Another said: "The hacker giving Simon the golden buzzer was absolutely brilliant #BGT but does that mean he is through to the next round?"
Meanwhile one added: "I love this guy. Turns up to BGT and gets Simon to audition and the Hacker judges."
Britain's Got Talent airs on Saturday night at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
