Travel experts have revealed where Brits can go in September, where temperatures remain at 28C even after summer ends, and where there are 11 hours of sunshine per day. Many Brits will have already been on their summer holiday as we near the end of August, especially those with children heading back to school. However, some people are yet to jet off from the UK for their sunny beach holiday this year. One of the places they can go, even after summer ends, has stunning beaches, hot weather and plenty to do, with some describing it as "unspoilt".
Kalkan is a region of Turkey located on the Mediterranean that is often overshadowed by more popular destinations like Antalya and Bodrum. The area is home to towns such as Kas as well as its namesake, Kalkan. Those seeking sunshine and heat as summer comes to a close, this area is apparently the best in Europe. That is according to 101 Holidays, which ranked the destinations across the continent that remain the hottest in September as the busy tourist season dies down.

Kalkan has plenty to offer tourists, including top-rated attractions such as beaches, historic sites, and great restaurants. According to Tripadvisor reviews, the top thing to do in Kalkan is Kalkan Beach Park. One tourist said of this beach club: "We go to the beach club whenever we are in Kalkan. It's lovely to go across the bay to Kisla and very easy to get there using their complimentary water taxi. Food is great and the beach is really beautiful."
For the history lovers, there is Xanthos Antik Kenti, an amphitheatre in what was once the Lycian Federation. Other top attractions in Kalkan are Kalamar Beach Club, Palm Beach Club and Kalkan Atlantic Turkish Bath & Spa.
While Kalkan proves popular for some tourists, others have recommended heading slightly outside the town to the neighbouring Kas, which is slightly smaller but labelled as more "authentic".
One Reddit user advised: "I spent a few days in Kas, the next town over [to Kalkan], back in 2016. Probably one of my top five favourite places I've ever been to."
Another shared: "I loved Kas. Went paragliding there. The landing zone was the marina. Very tricky landing and I managed scrape my knee on the concrete pad. But the people and food of Kas we're absolutely amazing."
A third wrote: "Kas has both charm and beautiful landscapes, plus great restaurants and a more local feel."

Sunday Times Travel Writer Mark Hodson says of the area: "The whitewashed fishing villages of Ka and Kalkan are not the absolute hottest resorts on the long Turquoise Coast of Turkey, but in my view they rank among the loveliest. Tumbling down a steep hillside towards the clear waters of the sea, you'll find luxury villas, charming restaurants and chic bars, all with spectacular sunset views. Simpson Travel have the best choice of pool villas in Kas, Kalkan and nearby Islamlar."
Meanwhile, Annabelle Thorpe from The Guardian says she "always returns" to this "unspoilt" part of Turkey.
The area is clearly his favourite for a September trip, as he ranks it above Sicily, Crete, and Malta. To get to Kas or Kalkan from the UK, you would typically fly into Dalaman International Airport (DLM) and take a car transfer there.
