Fans of Apple TV's The Studio are urged to rediscover a director's 'impeccable' film following their wild cameo on the new series.
The comedy is set to release its third instalment today (April 2), featuring a standout cameo from the actor-turned-filmmaker Ron Howard.
The Studio trails Seth Rogen's character, Matt Remick, who steps into the role of the newly appointed head of Continental Studios.
Finding himself in immediate need of celebrity endorsement, he and his executive team at the movie studio are tasked with balancing corporate demands with creative aspirations, all while striving to keep cinema alive and pertinent.
The latest episode, titled The Note, will see Matt grappling with nerves as he attempts to deliver some challenging feedback to legendary director Howard, who plays himself.
This is particularly a challenge given Matt's his past experience following a screening of the director's Oscar-winning film, A Beautiful Mind.
Although Howard initially gained fame as a cast member on the show Happy Days, his directorial credits are impressively diverse, spanning from films like Cocoon to Apollo 13 and Solo: A Star Wars Story. While The Studio will feature him directing a fictional project named Alphabet City starring Anthony Mackie, there is a solid option for fans to redsicover afterwards.
Cinderella Man sees Russell Crowe team up with the director for another biopic, after their triumph with A Beautiful Mind.
Released in 2005, the film chronicles the life of former boxer James J Braddock who leads a modest existence in America, reports .
However, as the Great Depression wreaks havoc on his family, he is compelled to return to boxing. Those in the UK can easily stream the title from the comfort of their own, as it is available as part of a Disney+ subscription.
Some critics have labelled the film as Oscar-bait, yet it did not secure any nominations at the Academy Awards. Despite this, reviews have lauded Howard's directorial style, and the movie boasts an 80% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
One critic remarked: "Howard's movie skillfully delivers that primal, heart-pounding satisfaction that is the promise of all boxing tales."
Another commented: "The joy is in the playing, and Ron Howard pulls out all the stops like the organist at the old Madison Square Garden."
Film fans shared a similar sentiment, with many ranking it among Howard's greatest works.
One online reviewer commented: "Ron Howard, takes the audience back to a very dark time in American history. The Great Depression. People and families were suffering economically and spirituality. They were looking for a hero , an underdog. Howard gives us the life and times of boxer Jim Braddock. An inspiring true story of a washed up boxer. A great performance by Crow, Zellweger and Giamatti. Inspiring!".
Another fan added: "Another great biopic from Ron Howard, Akiva Goldsman and Russell Crowe. A good story told well with the required punches and tensions. Great acting, directing, writing make Cinderella Man a must watch."
Echoing a similar opinion, a different viewer raved: "One of the best Russell Crowe's performances. Impeccable direction by Ron Howard, well-planned narrative and strong character motivations."
