A major sex and extortion scandal has rocked Thailand as a 35-year-old woman, Wilawan Aimsawat, also known as “Miss Golf,” was arrested for blackmailing Buddhist monks using sexually explicit content. The case has shocked the public, not just for its scale, but because it involves revered monks breaking their vow of celibacy.
📍 Arrest and AllegationsWilawan was arrested from her luxury residence in Nonthaburi, a suburb north of Bangkok. She faces multiple charges including:
-
Extortion
-
Money laundering
-
Possession of stolen property
According to the Royal Thai Police Central Investigation Bureau, she had sexual relations with at least nine monks, some of whom were high-ranking abbots. These monks have now been defrocked and expelled from their monasteries.
📸 80,000 Explicit Files & ₹102 Crore BlackmailPolice recovered over 80,000 photos and videos of Wilawan engaging in sexual acts with various monks. Investigators believe she used this content to blackmail the monks for money.
In just three years, she allegedly extorted 385 million Thai Baht, which is approximately ₹102 crore (INR), according to BBC reports.
📱 Phone Reveals Dark SecretsUpon confiscating her mobile devices, authorities found chats and intimate videos involving numerous Buddhist figures. It is believed that Wilawan initially approached the monks via social media, gradually built trust, then initiated physical relationships which she later used for blackmail.
One monk claimed he was in a long-term relationship with her and had even gifted her a car. But things soured when he found out she was seeing other monks, after which she started demanding money.
👶 Claim of Having a Monk’s ChildAccording to Daily Star, Wilawan has claimed that she even has a child with one of the monks. The scandal came to light in mid-June when the abbot of Wat Tri Thotsathep temple suddenly disappeared. It later emerged that he had fled due to blackmail threats from Wilawan, who now claims he fathered her child.
