India’s homegrown SUV, Maruti Fronx, has achieved a major global milestone, becoming one of the country’s most successful automobile exports. In just 25 months since its launch in April 2023, Maruti Suzuki has exported over 1 lakh units of the Fronx, setting a new record as India’s fastest exported crossover SUV.
Japan Emerges as the Biggest FanThe Fronx is manufactured exclusively at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant, and while it’s available across India, its demand has skyrocketed overseas—particularly in Japan, a country known for its high-quality automotive standards. The SUV is now being shipped to more than 80 countries, including key global markets in Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.
Dominates Indian Car ExportsMaruti Suzuki reported that over 69,000 units of the Fronx were exported in FY 2024-25 alone, making it the most exported passenger car from India for that year. The carmaker has retained its position as India’s largest car exporter for four consecutive years, exporting over 96,000 cars in the first quarter of FY 2025-26, which accounts for an impressive 47% of India’s total passenger vehicle exports.
Currently, Maruti exports 17 models to nearly 100 countries, with top destinations being Japan, South Africa, and Saudi Arabia.
Contributing to a Record-Breaking YearIn FY 2024-25, Maruti Suzuki exported over 3.3 lakh vehicles, the highest in its history and a 17.5% increase compared to the previous year. While the Fronx led the charge, other models like the Jimny, Baleno, Swift, and Dzire also played key roles in driving export growth.
