Devdutt Padikkal's Gritty Century: Scored 64 Runs by Running, Made Australia A Sweat in Lucknow

Send Push

The first unofficial Test between India A and Australia A is underway at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. While Australia posted a mammoth 532 in their first innings, India A mounted a strong reply, thanks to a brilliant century from Devdutt Padikkal.

Padikkal’s Determined Knock

Batting at number four, Padikkal showed immense patience and discipline. He crafted his century off 198 balls, striking just nine boundaries. Remarkably, 64 of his runs came through running between the wickets—highlighting both his fitness and determination. It was an innings that tested Australia’s bowlers, forcing them to work hard for every wicket.

Partnership with Dhruv Jurel

Padikkal’s century was complemented by Dhruv Jurel, who also reached three figures. The duo stitched together a crucial 200-plus partnership, laying a solid foundation for India A’s innings. Their stand not only blunted the Australian attack but also tilted the momentum in India’s favor.

Special Comeback Moment

For Padikkal, this hundred carries extra significance. He had been sidelined during IPL 2025 due to a hamstring injury that cut short his season with RCB. Returning recently in the Duleep Trophy semi-finals, he struck a half-century, and now, with this century against Australia A, he has underlined his readiness for higher challenges.

Eyeing a Test Recall

Padikkal made his Test debut for India in March last year against England and later featured in the Perth Test during the Australia tour. In three innings so far, he has 90 runs, including a half-century. With this performance, he has strengthened his claim for a spot in the upcoming West Indies Test series.
