Optical illusions aren't just fun to look at, but they can also give an insight into how our brain works. Scientists believe optical illusions can help them learn more about how vision and the brain works together.
These images play tricks on our mind by using colour, light and patterns to create images that can be deceptive or misleading. You might end up seeing something that isn't really there. And because we're all different, you might see something completely different to someone else.
Some people believe optical illusions can also be used as personality tests, which involve looking at an image that can be viewed as several different things. And what you see first is supposed to be able to reveal certain details about your personality. These tests, based on psychology, are a fun way of learning about yourself.

Recently an optical illusion was shared by psychologist Marina Neuralean on TikTok. According to the content creator, what you see first when you look at it can help reveal how easily you open up to others.
Sharing a picture of what looks like a scene from nature, Marina asked: "What did you see first in this image? What caught your eye right away? This is a psychological test. An optical illusion that reveals how easily you open up to others."
Apparently, most people see either a waterfall or a panda, and the one that you first saw can reveal certain things about your personality. "If the waterfall was the first thing you noticed, it means you open up easily, and make new connections quickly," explained Marina. "You see yourself as an open person. And your lightness and simplicity attracts others. You're also a great listener and give genuinely helpful advice."
However, according to Marina, there is a downside to this type of personality. She explained there's a danger people might see you as "too positive to the point where they think you have no problems". That's because you might be happy to help people with their problems, but prefer to handle your own ones alone. For people who belong to this personality type, they might value their independence, but deep down wish they had someone to lean on.
However, if you saw a bear or panda first, you're the opposite of this, according to Marina. She explained: "You may appear sweet and friendly on the outside, but you don't let people into your heart easily. It usually takes you a long time to trust someone. And you have a hard time letting go of the past."
According to the psychologist, this is often rooted in a "traumatic experience" 'from the past. However, being cautious of repeating the same mistakes as in the past isn't necessarily a bad thing, she explained.
