Keir Starmer has branded Donald Trump's vile Sharia Law attack on London Mayor Sadiq Khan "ridiculous".
The US President launched an extraordinary tirade about Mr Khan and said the UK capital's leaders "want to go to Sharia law". Mr Khan - who has no such plans - accused Trump of being "racist" and "Islamophobic"
Asked by ITV London about the President's attack Mr Starmer defended the Mayor, who he branded a "good man". Trump's attack on Mr Khan, at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, came just days after he returned from a historic second state visit to the UK.

Mr Starmer said: "Well, as you saw from the state visit last week, there's lots that the president and I agree on and we work together on.
"There's a few things we disagree about. This is one of them. The idea of the introduction of Sharia law is nonsense. And Sadiq Khan is a very good man and actually driving down serious crime.
"So as I say, there's a lot I agree with with President Trump. We get along. We had a good state visit last week, but on this I disagree with him. The Sharia law comments were ridiculous."
Asked if he agreed with Mr Khan that the US commander-in-chief was sexist, racist and Islamophobic, the PM said: "Well, I'm not going to get drawn into a war of words. I'm absolutely clear on the issues where I agree with the President.
"We have to work together. Of course, a very, very important relationship between our two countries. But equally, I'm very proud of our capital city and very proud of our mayor here, who's doing a very good job."
During a rambling speech Trump said London has "a terrible, terrible mayor, and it's been changed, it's been so changed". Mr Khan responded: "People are wondering what it is about this Muslim mayor who leads a liberal, multi-cultural, progressive and successful city, that means I appear to be living rent-free inside Donald Trump's head."
He added: "I think President Trump has shown he is racist, he is sexist, he is misogynistic and he is Islamophobic."
