There’s good news for coin collectors as four very rare new coins are set to be released. Some people don’t take much notice of the spare change lying around in their wallets but some pieces are worth keeping an eye on as they could be worth a pretty penny.
Several types of coins can be particularly profitable because of their rarity, historical significance or unique features, such as defects or special designs. The TikTok user @dansdollars is an expert coin collector and has gained more than 100,000 followers. He shares his daily coin hunts and coin reviews on the platform.
In one of his latest videos he highlighted some new coins to look out for, telling viewers these four coins are about to be released into UK circulation and are well worth hunting for.

He added: "The question is why? Well, they’re going to be some of the rarest coins ever to be released and they’re going to be worth a lot more than their face values on the secondary market.”
The coin collector then delved into how much the coins will be worth, starting with a 5p coin featuring a picture of acorns attached to three leaves.
Dan estimates that there will be a little more than 30 million of these released but he shared that this coin will only be worth its face value.
Next, he moved onto the rarest of the lot - a 20p coin with an image of a puffin. The coin collector claimed there are 525,000 pieces to be released and each will be “worth £25 minimum but it could well creep up to £40.”
The last two bits are a 10p coin adorned with a picture of a capercaillie bird and a 1p coin featuring a picture of a dormouse.
Dan revealed there will only be 600,000 of each of these pieces. He added: “Again, the one penny, 600,000 mintage, that is incredible.
“You’re going to be looking at £25 for the dormouse [and] 15 for that capercaillie. And oh boy, if you get a bag of them you are in with the money.”
The coin hunter recommends anyone who gets a bag of these coins to save them if possible, promising that you’ll “definitely be able to make that collection grow when you sell those coins.”
Dan’s TikTok video has garnered several comments from fellow coin collectors. One asked: “Are these the new coins that are out for circulation?”
The expert replied: “These are the designs, yes, hopefully we get them very soon.”
Another viewer said: “Mate I have never gone to [the] bank to get my coins. I find them. I cover multiple branches and check the till every time but I’m tempted to on this one!
“I’ve got the £1 bee but I WANT the rest.” To this comment, Dan responded: “The coins will be released through post offices, not banks. Best of luck hunting for them.”
