Should those four be moved on, it will both pay for Cunha and help alleviate some of the club's PSR concerns, giving them more room to manouvere in this summer's market.
Cuha, 25, has shone for Wolves this season, scoring 14 league goals on their way to safety. And it is clear that United boss Ruben Amorim is a big fan. Speaking after his side’s defeat to Wolves at the weekend, the Portuguese head coach said: “(Vitor Pereira) has real quality players — Cunha and all these guys, they have real quality. They are fresh. I just gave the example because I remembered about Matheus — he’s scoring a lot of goals. Just that.”
Cunha has four years left on the new contract he signed in the Black Country only in February. Despite that, his future remains up in the air, while he recently became involved in an online spat with a Wolves fan channel.
Would Matheus Cunha be a good signing for Man United?
Cunha shared a post reading: “Time to be happy. I will follow my dreams, not yours. So stay cool,” which was swiftly deleted. A fan account then shared the post, something that Cunha took exception to.
He replied: “Do you know what you want? For people to not like me here, unfortunately I’m going to the field to solve the problem of your favourite club. I’m not here looking for alternatives to be someone important. Fans root for their own, they don’t create misfortunes all the time.”
After being told his accusations were false, Cunha then doubled down. “I’m sorry but that’s exactly what you want. The first one to report fake news, not what was really in the news, I make a video and pretend it’s irrelevant,” he wrote.
“What you don’t understand is that you are an opinion maker, if you don’t like me, that’s fine friend. And in the end, every negative interpretation you have is the first one to try to reproduce. Let’s do the following. In common we only have the Wolves that I love so much.”
