Donald Trump 'sickens' onlookers with telling greeting he gave to Vladimir Putin

Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin have convened in Alaska to thrash out a host of contentious issues, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The US President is hell-bent on securing a ceasefire, warning he "won't be happy" if an agreement isn't reached.

Yet, despite these strong words, the atmosphere was surprisingly relaxed when the two global powerhouses met on the tarmac today (August 15). As Putin strolled towards Trump on the red carpet, he was greeted with applause from the 79-year-old American.

The duo shook hands and casually chatted as they made their way to their transfer vehicle. They paused briefly for photographs, seemingly ignoring the pressing questions hurled at them by journalists.

Observers are deeply troubled that Putin – who stands accused of being a 'war criminal' – has received such a warm reception in Alaska.

Some said they were sickened that Trump appears to be pandering to Putin on US soil, which is a very telling sign given the magnitude of the topics they are discussing today.

One social media user posted a vomiting emoji, commenting: "Trump just clapped as Putin was coming towards him, and then they did a lovey dovey smiley handshake."

Another critic said: "Trump applauded like an excited school boy, multiple times, as Putin was walking towards him. This is the sickest s*** ever."

A third observer noted: "He has zero social etiquette. WTF is he clapping for?" While another added: "Putin wins. He made it to the US. Even got Trump to clap for him. Disgusting."

However, some supported the cordial welcome, arguing it was simply the most diplomatic approach.

Defending the applause, a Trump supporter said: "Because he is in a diplomatic mission, welcoming a head of state, because he hopes to accomplish something good and wants Putin to feel welcome. That is what real leaders and real heads of states do."

Only time will tell if relations between the world leaders remain this cordial. The meeting was scheduled to commence at 11:30am local time and will carry on into the evening.

Whilst Trump has made it clear that a Ukraine ceasefire is on his agenda, the White House has not yet provided details on specific proposals or whether progress was made during the closed-door discussions.
