India strikes Pakistan: Amid growing tension along the India-Pakistan border, authorities in Punjab and Rajasthan have ordered the closure of schools in several border districts as a safety measure. The decision comes after the Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes on terror camps across the border.
A high alert has been declared in all border areas of Rajasthan. As a precaution, airports in Bikaner and Jodhpur have also been closed.
In Uttar Pradesh, a red alert was issued following the launch of Operation Sindoor. The Director General of Police (DGP) office shared that all police teams in the state have been asked to work closely with the Defence forces and tighten security around key locations. “UP Police remains alert, equipped, and fully prepared to ensure the safety of every citizen. Jai Hind!” the statement said.
In Punjab, schools were closed in five districts near the border: Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, and Gurdaspur, on Wednesday.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 which targeted nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. These included major locations such as Jaish-e-Mohammad’s base in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s centre in Muridke. The strikes were carried out in response to the Pahalgam massacre, where 26 civilians were killed.
Officials confirmed that in Ferozepur, the local administration ordered all schools to remain shut for the day. In Pathankot, schools will stay closed for the next 72 hours. Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Fazilka also announced the temporary closure of all educational institutions.
In Rajasthan, an official told PTI that both government and private schools have been shut in the border districts of Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, and Barmer. “Schools have been closed, and preparations for mock drills are complete,” the official added.
The closures come as the region remains on high alert. Rajasthan is a key strategic state that shares a 1,070 km-long border with Pakistan.
