Days after being expelled from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and effectively disowned by his father, Tej Pratap Yadav reached out to his parents through a social media post on Sunday, blaming “greedy people” for the rift in the family and pleading for reconciliation.
In a message posted on X, the RJD chief’s eldest son wrote: “My dear mom and dad… My whole world is just you two. You and any order given by you are greater than God. If you are there then I have everything. I just need your trust and love and nothing else.”
Without naming names, he hinted at political manipulation around him: “Papa, if you were not there then this party would not have been there and neither would greedy people like Jaichand who do politics with me.”
The comments mark Tej Pratap’s first major reaction since Lalu Prasad Yadav’s explosive announcement last week, in which he expelled his son from the party for six years, citing “irresponsible behaviour” and violation of family values.
Why Lalu disowned Tej Pratap
The disciplinary action came after Tej Pratap made a controversial post on Facebook, claiming he had been in a relationship with a woman named Anushka for over 12 years. He later said that his account had been hacked.
Responding sternly, Lalu Prasad posted on May 26: “Ignoring moral values in personal life weakens our collective struggle for social justice. The actions, public conduct, and irresponsible behavior of my eldest son are not in accordance with our family’s principles. Therefore, under these circumstances, I am removing him from the party and the family.”
The veteran leader added that while Tej Pratap is capable of judging right and wrong in his personal life, others engaging with him do so “at their own discretion.”
Meanwhile, Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap’s younger brother and the party’s de facto face in Bihar, said the party would not tolerate behaviour that crosses ethical boundaries.
“We cannot tolerate such things. If it's about my big brother, political life and personal life are different. He has the right to make his personal decisions,” Tejashwi told the media, signalling a carefully measured response that distances the party from the controversy without escalating the family feud further.
Tej Pratap's troubled personal life
This isn’t the first time Tej Pratap Yadav has been at the centre of controversy. His short-lived marriage to Aishwarya Rai—granddaughter of former Bihar CM Daroga Rai—ended amid allegations of abuse and mistreatment. Aishwarya accused Tej Pratap and his family of harassment, and the couple separated within months.
In recent years, Tej Pratap has frequently made headlines for his unpredictable statements, public outbursts, and confrontations within the party. His relationship with the RJD has remained uneasy, with several episodes of estrangement, reconciliations, and symbolic defiance, such as threatening to launch his own political factions or criticising party insiders.
The public fallout between the Yadav patriarch and his eldest son threatens to tarnish the RJD’s image as it attempts to consolidate its base ahead of key electoral contests in Bihar.
The dramatic rupture also revives discussions about succession and unity within one of Bihar’s most influential political dynasties.
While Tej Pratap’s social media overture signals a desire to mend fences, the RJD’s top brass, led by Tejashwi, appears focused on drawing a clear line between personal indiscipline and political accountability.

मेरे प्यारे मम्मी पापा....
— Tej Pratap Yadav (@TejYadav14) May 31, 2025
