Chaos erupts at Mamata Banerjee's meeting over SSC job losses in Kolkata

Kolkata: Major chaos broke out several times on Monday morning in front of Netaji Indoor Stadium over entry in the meeting called by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and collection of passes for the meeting. Mamata Banerjee will hold a meeting with the "eligible" candidates who lost their jobs following last week's verdict by the Supreme Court, rejecting 26,000 jobs in connection with the SSC recruitment job scam.

The candidates, who are teachers and lost their jobs, also questioned the credibility of the passes for the meeting.
"There are many outsiders who are not 'eligible' candidates. they are entering the meeting at Netaji Indoor Stadium illegally," a SSC candidate said.

A huge contingent of police from Kolkata and Howarh, led by senior IPS officials have come to the spot. Police faced major hindrance managing the huge number of candidates and broke barricades set up by the police. The candidates have come up with their rank cards and OMR sheets. the group of candidates who have been staging protest in Kolkata near Esplanade's Shahid Minar for more than the last two years.

In today's meeting, the West Bengal Chief Minister, Chief Secretary Manoj Pant and Education Minister Bratya Basu were present.

Deprived teacher's Association Convener Sangita said, "First High Court's judgement and then Supreme Court's judgement to differentiate between 'tainted' and 'untainted' candidates. We have family responsibilities. Like me, there are thousands who have no idea,\ what will happen to us next month."

On April 3, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that she does not “accept” the Supreme Court judgement on SSC on “humanitarian ground despite having highest regards for judiciary and Supreme Court judges”. Calling it a conspiracy by BJP and CPI-M, Banerjee blamed the two political parties for maligning Bengal and attempting to “collapse” and destabilize the education system.
