The has completed 17 seasons, with the 18th season currently underway, and since its inception in 2008, the IPL has grown leaps and bounds, giving us some memorable and iconic moments, and it just keeps getting better each season. The league has seen more than a thousand matches played across its 17 completed seasons and the eighteenth ongoing. There have been many games that find a special place in IPL fans' hearts and will never be forgotten. 

In this article, we take a look at the top five most memorable events of IPL history, reimagined in viral and trending Ghibli style.

Sunrisers Hyderabad etched their name in IPL history by scoring a record-breaking 287/3 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024. This became the highest-ever team total in IPL history, surpassing RCB’s previous record of 263/5 back in 2013 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. 

Travis Head scored a century off just 39 balls, while Klaasen and Abhishek Sharma played explosive knocks as the carnage continued. They smashed 22 sixes and 19 fours en route to that total, and this inning depicted the evolution of T20 and the latest approach of modern day batters to smash the ball out of the park from the word 'go'. Sunrisers' record-breaking feat will be remembered for a long time and will go down as an iconic moment in IPL history.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) made history by winning the inaugural IPL in 2008 and became the original champions. It was the first edition, and no one knew what to expect from this league. No one could imagine how big this league will turn out to be in the coming years. Many big players were signed ahead of the mega auction, and one of them was the legendary spinner Shane Warne who was picked up by the franchise, and became 'The First Royal'.

Warne led a relatively young side, and his team defied all odds to win the title. The final was held on June 1, 2008, at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai between CSK and RR. Chennai Super Kings posted 163/5, batting first, and RR chased down the target, scoring 164/7, securing a 3-wicket victory with Sohail Tanvir hitting the winning runs off the final ball. That season was a great story for an underdog team and will forever be etched in people's minds.

Chris Gayle's 175 off 66 balls against Pune Warriors India in the 2013 edition was nothing short of peak destruction. On April 23, 2013, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru faced off against PWI. Chris Gayle broke one record after the other throughout the day as he smashed the PWI bowlers to all parts of the ground and delivered a masterclass of power hitting, a record that remains unassailed till date.

The Jamaican stalwart smashed his century in just 30 balls, which was the fastest in T20 history. He smashed 17 sixes and 13 fours at a brutal strike rate of 265. He stayed unbeaten at the end as RCB posted a mammoth total of 263 for the loss of five wickets and went on to win the game by 130 runs. This inning will always be remembered as one of the most iconic knocks not only in the IPL but in the history of 20-over cricket.

Chennai Super Kings winning another IPL title in 2023 remains one of the most iconic moments in the history of mega tournament. The grand finale was set to be played on May 28, 2023, at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium between CSK and the then defending champions Gujarat Titans. But in a twist of fate, persistent rains forced the match to the Reserve Day, and the final was postponed to the following day. Even on the reserved day, rain interrupted play, and the wait continued.

The match was finally underway, and Sai Sudharsan’s 96 off 47 balls set up a big total for the Gujarat Titans, and CSK was set a revised target of 171 in 15 overs due to a rain delay. It was a fascinating match with plenty of ebbs and flows, and it all came down to the final over, where 13 runs were required with Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube in the middle and Mohit Sharma delivering the ultimate over. Jadeja held his nerve, hitting the needed 10 runs off the last two balls to help CSK secure their fifth trophy. With this, the MS Dhoni-led side also equalled Mumbai Indians record of five title, and it is among the most unforgettable moments.

This knock by McCullum on the magical night of April 18, 2008, will go down as one of the most iconic events in the history of IPL.
