A lieutenant colonel has been accused of assaulting airline staff at Srinagar airport. An officer of this rank gets a salary of about Rs 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh every month.
A recent incident at Srinagar airport has garnered discussion across the country. The matter is of a fight between a senior military officer and airline staff, in which there was alleged assault and several employees were injured. Now the question is arising that who are these officers, what is their rank and how much salary do they get?
What is the whole controversy?
The incident took place on July 26, 2025 at Srinagar International Airport when Lieutenant Colonel RK Singh, who is a senior army officer, arrived to catch a SpiceJet flight to Delhi. According to the report, he was asked to pay a fee for carrying extra luggage, which he refused. After this, he entered the aerobridge without completing the boarding process, which was a violation of security rules. CISF pulled them out, but then the fight allegedly started.
Who got injured and how much?
SpiceJet said in its official statement that four employees were injured in this incident. One has a spinal fracture, another has a serious jaw injury. One employee fell unconscious, but the officer kept beating him with punches and kicks. The entire incident was captured on CCTV and its video went viral on social media.
Process of adding name to no-fly list started
SpiceJet has also complained about this incident to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and has started the process of putting that officer in the no-fly list. The airline says that the safety of passengers and employees is a priority for them and any kind of violence will not be tolerated.
Rank and salary of the officer
The name of the military officer involved in the incident is being told as Lieutenant Colonel RK Singh. He is currently posted at the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) in Gulmarg (Jammu and Kashmir). The rank of Lieutenant Colonel is considered very senior in the Indian Army.
At this rank, the officer gets a monthly salary of Rs 1,21,200 to Rs 2,12,400. Apart from this, he also gets Military Service Pay, DA (Dearness Allowance), HRA, Transport Allowance and other facilities. In this way, the in-hand salary of a Lieutenant Colonel can be from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh.
What did the army say?
The Indian Army has shown seriousness in this matter. In a statement issued by the Army, it has been said that the Army is committed to maintaining the highest standards of discipline and conduct and all the allegations are being taken seriously. Full cooperation is being given to the police in the investigation of the matter.
Case against airline employees too
However, this matter is not one-sided. Lieutenant Colonel Singh has also filed a counter complaint with the police, after which an FIR has also been registered against the airline staff. At present, the police is investigating both the sides.
