Tottenham suffered their 19th league defeat of a dire season after Liverpool recorded a resounding 5-1 victory to wrap up the Premier League title. Following Monday night's 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest, .
The boss made eight changes in total, with players such as Archie Gray, Ben Davies, Kevin Danso and James Maddison coming into the side. Key defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven started the game on the substitutes' bench. With all the talk heading into the game of Liverpool becoming 2024/25 Premier League champions, it was Spurs who struck first as Dominic Solanke powerfully headed home inch-perfect corner.
Tottenham weren't ahead for long, though, as Luiz Diaz was on hand to convert from close range and the goal counted following a VAR check. The Reds then took the lead on 24 minutes as Alexis Mac Allister found the top corner of Guglielmo Vicario's with a stinging drive from outside the box.
It was to get even better for the Reds not long before half-time as Cody Gakpo added a third of the afternoon with a low effort into the bottom corner. Mohamed Salah was to get his goal just before the hour mark with a low drive into the bottom corner and a Destiny Udogie own goal extended the scoreline even further.
Here's how we rated the Tottenham players in the game on Merseyside:
Guglielmo Vicario
Not much he could do about Liverpool's three first-half goals. Saved low down from Ryan Gravenberch in the second half and denied Dominik Szoboszlai with a good save as the midfielder looked on course to net. Very shaky at times in possession of the ball and that benefited Liverpool. 4
Djed Spence
Switched over to right-back and was busy defensively with Liverpool in total control. Had a few forays forward but nothing much really came off for him. 5
Kevin Danso
Wasn't aware of Diaz coming off his shoulder for Liverpool's first goal of the afternoon. Busy throughout with the Reds putting Spurs under a lot of pressure. Had a shot in the second half that drifted wide of the target. 5
Ben Davies
Came in for Micky van de Ven and produced a good block from Trent Alexander-Arnold's drive not long before the break. Made a clearance after the restart as Andy Robertson's flick was on course to go in. 5
Destiny Udogie
Back in the team after missing out on the squad on Monday night and faced a hectic afternoon with Salah and Alexander-Arnold down his side of the pitch. Salah cut inside far too easily for his goal and then the Italian international netted an own goal with Liverpool's star man waiting to tap the ball into an empty net. 3
Archie Gray
Handed a rare chance in midfield and found it very tough at times against one of the Premier League's best midfield trios. Szoboszlai ran off him to tee up Diaz's opener and then he was outmuscled by Gravenberch for Mac Allister's goal midway through the first half, although it's fair to say it wasn't a great pass from Mathys Tel. Replaced at the break. 3
Lucas Bergvall
Active in midfield but produced a poor header from a corner that resulted in Gakpo making it three for the hosts. Kept going despite the scoreline as he tried to get the team moving forward. 5
James Maddison
Returned to the team and took on the captain's armband with Son Heung-min and Cristian Romero not in the starting XI. Started the game really brightly in the final third and got an assist to his name for Solanke's early goal. Always looked lively when on the ball as he tried to invent things. Replaced at the break. 6
Brennan Johnson
Made it too easy for Gakpo to come away with the ball prior to the Netherlands international scoring Liverpool's third of the afternoon. Put in a good ball prior to half-time that saw Ibrahima Konate come to the rescue as Tel looked on hand to convert. Didn't really offer much else in the final third. 4
Dominic Solanke
Back in the team and opened the scoring 12 minutes in with a thumping header from Maddison's delivery. Also played his part in winning the corner up against Konate. Battled well at times to cause Liverpool a few issues but no chances on goal after his header. 7
Mathys Tel
Got the nod to start in the front three once again and was lively down the left flank at times. Unfortunately had a role to play in Liverpool's second after his pass inside to Archie Gray was snaffled up by the Reds and Mac Allister duly found the top corner. 5
Substitutes
Pape Matar Sarr (Archie Gray, 46)
Introduced at the break and had a huge task on him trying to keep the Reds' midfield quiet. 5
Dejan Kulusevski (James Maddison, 46)
Lost the ball on the edge of the Liverpool box and it resulted in the Reds countering at speed and Salah scoring their fourth of the afternoon. 4
Wilson Odobert (Mathys Tel, 67)
Offered very little in attack. 4
Richarlison (Dominic Solanke, 67)
Got more minutes in the tank but didn't have opportunities to make an impact in the final third. 4
