Son Heung-min has officially departed Tottenham Hotspur to complete a transfer to MLS side LAFC. The 33-year-old's move to the United States brings an end to a decade in N17 following his move from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015.
The deal with the German side proved to be one of the club's best ever pieces of transfer business as he went on to register 173 goals and 101 assists in his 454 games for Spurs. Son at least was to end his time at Tottenham by captaining the club to their first piece of silverware in 17 years.
Having seen major trophies elude him prior to his final season in north London, Son played his part in Tottenham winning the Europa League final in May as they beat Manchester United 1-0 in the final in Bilbao. Following that memorable night at San Mames Stadium, speculation over the player's long-term future continued to dominate the headlines with a switch to Saudi Arabia or MLS mentioned.

Confirmation that Son would depart Tottenham ahead of the 2025/26 season finally arrived on Saturday morning in South Korea as the player held an emotional press conference to announce his exit. He said: "It was the most difficult decision I have made in my career. I have spent 10 years at Tottenham. The main reason is I have achieved everything I can at Tottenham.
"I need a new environment for a fresh challenge. I’m grateful the club have respected my decision and wish Spurs well for the next season."
Son added: "I said it before but it was the most difficult decision of my career. I have been here for 10 years. It’s a beautiful club with beautiful fans. I have such amazing memories. It was so hard to make the decision. I just felt like I needed a new environment to push myself to get more out of me I think I needed a little bit of change. 10 years is a long time.
"I came to north London as a kid. 23 years old, a very young age. A boy who couldn’t speak English. I leave this club as a grown man. Thank you to all the Spurs fans who have given me so much love. It felt like it was my home. It was one of the toughest decisions I ever made. I think it is the right time to leave. I hope that everyone understands that and respects that."
The experienced attacker then played his final game for the club the following day as he captained the team in their 1-1 draw against Newcastle United in his home country. Son was mobbed by his teammates when leaving the pitch and even given a guard of honour when exiting the field.
Rather than returning with the rest of his teammates to the UK upon the completion of their Asia tour, he remained behind in South Korea with a switch to LAFC set to come to fruition. Tottenham's No.7 has now officially completed his move to Los Angeles, duly joining long-time Spurs teammate Hugo Lloris at BMO Stadium. It's believed the fee paid to Tottenham is more than £20million, which is an MLS record.
Son's debut for his new club could come very soon as LAFC take on Chicago Fire away this Sunday, with another away game at New England Revolution on the calendar the following weekend.
