Arsenal star Viktor Gyokeres sends two-word message amid injury worry and timeline hope

Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres has broken his silence after picking up a muscular injury in the Gunners' win over Burnley.

The Swedish striker was left out of the Gunners'travelling squad for the 3-0 win over Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Mikel Merino grabbed a brace for Mikel Arteta's side after Bukayo Saka's opener to maintain their 100 per cent record in Europe's elite competition.

Gyokeres, who has not been called up for the Swedish national side after picking up the injury against Burnley, shared a two-word message celebrating the win in Prague.

He shared the club's full-time graphic with Merino celebrating, writing: "Get in [bicep emoji, flame emoji, heart emoji]."

Arsenal were without three recognised centre forwards for the win in midweek, with Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz and Gyokeres all absent.

However, football.london understands that concerns over a more serious issue for the Swedish striker have subsided. There's also hope that he could return for the first match following the international break, the North London Derby.

Speaking ahead of the game, Arteta said: "He’s definitely not available. He hasn't trained today, and we need to do some more tests and scans in the next few days to understand the extent of the injury, but for this game he's not available.

"I am concerned because he hasn't had many muscular issues and he had to leave the pitch. He was feeling something and that’s obviously never a good sign.

"Especially for a player that is very, very explosive, so we are digging in a little bit more to understand where we are in terms of the injury and we will announce it when we know more."

The Gunners boss added: "Well obviously he was very disappointed after the match with what he felt, but this is part of football. At the end of the day, if you expect a linear line, everything going up, it's not going to happen.

"If he's got something he's going to have to deal with, we will help him to do that. He was in a really good moment, in really good form, he's very important for the team. But for tomorrow, we don't have him, so that's it."
