However, they acknowledge that any deal would be far from straightforward due to Villa’s reluctance to part with one of their most promising talents. That said, the suggests Villa must make at least one significant sale before 30 June in order to remain within the s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
The club faced a similar situation last year, when the sale of midfielder Douglas Luiz to Serie A giants Juventus reportedly eased financial pressures and helped them avoid a points deduction. Some rumours suggest it could take a fee in the region of £100m to prise Rogers away from Villa this summer. The attacker is undoubtedly one of, if not the, most valuable assets in ’s squad at present.
While Rogers has attracted high-profile interest, there is also uncertainty over the futures of other key players, including goalkeeper Emi Martinez and striker Ollie Watkins. It remains to be seen who Villa might offload to ensure compliance with financial regulations, but Rogers would undoubtedly command the largest fee.
Villa’s final position in the Premier League will also have a significant impact on their transfer plans. Last season, they made history by qualifying for the and enjoyed a remarkable run to the quarter-finals, before being knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain.
This time around, qualification hangs in the balance. Villa currently sit seventh in the table, with only the top five securing a place in next season’s competition.
Just three points separate them from Newcastle and Chelsea in fourth and fifth, meaning the race is far from over with three games to play.
